Photography (Technical)

Venue: Unit 7

Purpose:

To promote, educate and share technical skills and information that will support members to improve their photography knowledge and capabilities. The scope of this group will cover four main areas;

Photography skills: in terms of taking photographs, considering composition and perspectives, exposure, focal lengths, use of filters and accessories, styles and genres.

Review and post processing: image review, cropping, processing, styling. Exporting to share and print, framing. Software options, monitor and printer specs and calibration.

Camera and Smartphone features: understanding settings, menu options, shooting modes, manual versus auto, shooting in RAW, lenses - types, focal lengths, depth of field.

Sharing and support: sharing images for critique and learning opportunity, hints and tips, photography troubleshooting, sources of information.

Meeting Format:

Essentially three core components (to be refined at the inaugural meeting);

  • Themes for each meeting, presentation and discussion.
  • Sharing images and experiences, critique, feedback and support.
  • Open forum, help and advice, problem solving.

Expectations of members:

Participation is key, to actively contribute to the group, share photos and experience, engage in the preparation and delivery of brief presentation.
