Information for Group Leaders

The Group Leaders Handbook collects together information to guide and to help group leaders.

The Documentation page also has important documents for group leaders, such as:

  • the Health and Safety Handbook which has information about dealing with accidents and medical emergencies, and risk assessments
  • other documents about how Perth U3A works, for example, our constitution, financial procedures, and data protection.

Our groups coordinator convenes a group leaders meeting from time to time. See the Group leaders meeting notes 2026

Beacon

Beacon is the online admin system used by Perth u3a. It is used by over 600 u3as across the UK and is managed by volunteers. It enables group leaders to:

  • manage the membership of their group (adding and removing members)
  • manage a waiting list for their group
  • send emails to their group members.

The Group Leader User Guide explains how to use Beacon as a group leader.

Group leaders are entitled to have access to Beacon, their level of access being determined by what they need to do for Perth u3a. If you would like access, email Anne T, our Beacon admin.

Equipment

Bob Kerr is responsible for looking after our various items of equipment. These include our laptops, projectors, screens, banners and sound equipment. Equipment for use by groups is an up-to-date list of the available equipment. For more information, email Bob, our equipment coordinator.

Group pages on the website

All of our interest groups are divided between five broad categories each of which has a nominated category editor. The category editor is responsible for creating new web pages when new groups form, and for updating the pages as the occasion arises. If a group leader wants the text amended or wants to enhance the group's web page with images, then contact the relevant category editor:

  • Arts, music and crafts - email Ray
  • Games and social groups - email Pete
  • Physical activities - email Trevor
  • Understanding our world - email David
  • Words and languages - email Bill
