Status:Active, open to new members
Group email: Aviation Interest group
When: On Thursday mornings 10:00 am-11:30 am
Every four weeks, week 4
Venue: Unit 7

The Aviation Group is now in it’s second year. We are a ‘meet and natter’ group, we are not a flying club. We meet every 4 weeks to talk about any Aviation related topic.

Aviation began some 120 years ago when the Wright Brothers made the first manned, powered, flight in 1903. Today flying has become a common part of modern life and the Aviation Group was formed to discuss any aspect of Aviation; past, present, or future. The group is open to anybody with an interest in Aviation; whether you are a pilot, a passenger, or just an interested observer, you will be welcome.

Meetings typically include a presentation and over the last year these have included:
* Aviation,the first 100years
* The English Eletric Lightning
* Powered Flying versus Gliding
* Life as part of an RAF family
* The Clutha bar Helicopter crash
* Flying for life with the MIssion Aviation Fellowship

We have also had a group visit to Alba Airsports at Perth Airport.

The English Electric Lightning was a British fighter aircraft that served as an interceptor during the 1960s, the 1970s and into the late 1980s. It was capable of a top speed above Mach 2.
