Our book group reads and discusses an agreed list of books, some in more detail than others. As usual in 2023-24, we have had a varied fare of reading covering a range of genres. One of the benefits of a book group is that you get to read authors and titles you would not normally consider. This can be challenging at times but also stimulating.

We are fortunate to have access to the large range of library book group sets which means we do not always have to source the books ourselves. Our discussions have always been lively, fun, engaging and thought provoking. It is always interesting to get different perspectives on the same book and appreciate it from another’s eyes.

During Summer 2023, we agreed to read any of the following:

  • Jung Chang – Wild Swans
  • Toni Morrison – Beloved
  • Ali Smith – Autumn
  • Amor Towles - Lincoln Highway
  • Damien Barr - Maggie & Me (autobiography)
  • Sarah Duffy - London Lies Beneath
  • Richard Osman - The Thursday Murder Club
  • Catherine Bailey - Black Diamonds (non-fiction)

The 2023-24 schedule was as follows:

  • September – Summer reading
  • October - Sebastian Barry - A Long Long Way
  • November - Isabel Allende - A Long Petal of the Sea
  • December - George Orwell – Homage To Catalonia (classic)
  • January - Maggie O’Farrell - The Marriage Portrait (historical fiction)
  • February - Sarah Hall - Madam Zero (short stories)
  • March - David Heska Wanbli Weiden – Winter Counts (thriller)
  • April - William Boyd – Trio
