We aim to have a variety of genres throughout the year and usually have full and lively discussions on the material! The format is very informal but encourages all points of view to be voiced.
We end each u3a year with a lunch at which the books for the next session are chosen. Each member provides a short synopsis of their choice of 2 books of which one from each member is chosen by the other members. We are no longer a House Group as we now meet in Unit 7 and our dates have changed to facilitate Unit 7 slots but would still have a limit of 8 members and, as there are 8 meetings in the year, each member is able to have one of their book choices discussed. We have a friendly, informal and open approach to our reading choices with no particular topics off limits which ensures a lively and varied discussion.
The 2025/26 book choices are:
- Saving Noah by Lucinda Berry
- The Whalebone Theatre by Joanna Quinn
- Rules of Civility by Amor Towles
- My Brilliant Friend by Elena Ferrante
- Machines like Me by Ian McEwan
- Precipice by Robert Harris
- Leaving Berlin by Joseph Kanon
- A Town Called Solace by Mary Lawson
