Contrary to popular belief, to do ceilidh dancing you don't need to be able to dance, you don't need a sense of rhythm, you don't need a sense of timing; what really helps is a sense of humour! You can get through the dances anyway you want - shuffle, skip or do a skip change of step; ceilidh dancing is for everyone.
The sessions take the form of circle dances, round the room dances where one couple faces another, dance together then move to a different couple, couple dances (but sometimes its a dance for three people) and simple set dances for four, five or occassionally six couples. The main focus is on having fun and socialising; exercising without noticing it is a bonus! Making mistakes is allowed and part of the fun.
We occasionally have a challenge with a Scottish country dance which can get the little grey cells working overtime! There is always a great sense of achievement when we eventually get through the whole dance without making too many mistakes. So come along and join the fun. New members are always welcome.
