This is the group for you if you enjoy dipping into a range of historical eras spanning the world. What we discuss is determined by group members, who offer to do a brief introduction to something historical of interest to them, which is then discussed by the group. You don’t need to be an expert on the subject you choose! The programme for this session is as follows:

14 October 2024
The emergence of Sweden as a major Power in the 17th century
11 November 2024
The background to Swedish neutrality during World War II
9 December 2024
To be decided
27 January 2025
The reformation: good or bad?
24 February 2025
To be confirmed
24 March 2025
How Germany emerged from the chaos of World War II as a functioning society (Based on Aftermath by Harald Jahner)
21 April 2025
The Jacobites in Cumbria
We invite members to offer topics of their choice for future meetings. This eclectic approach has resulted in stimulating and enjoyable experiences from which we have broadened our historical horizons.
Do join us if this appeals to you.
