The overall aim of the group is to develop and improve members’ photographic skills and their enjoyment of photography. This is addressed at each meeting in two parts.

Firstly, group members share their knowledge and experience through review and constructive criticism of each other’s images in a friendly environment. A different photographic theme is chosen for each meeting. Themes are decided in the spring to give members plenty of time over the summer to plan and shoot images for sharing and discussion through the next session. A range of genres is chosen with the aim of encouraging members to think and work in areas of photography that may be outside their usual repertoire. Usually, (up to) three photographs per member are invited at each meeting. The photo themes for the 2026-27 session meetings are:
 (1) Three favourite photos from summer 2026, (2) Churches, (3) Fetes, Festivals, and Gatherings, (4) Three connected images on a theme of the photographer’s choice. (5) Three favourite photos from autumn 2026 (6) Patterns (7) Rocky (8) Capturing movement..

Secondly, in the latter part of each meeting (after a short break for coffee or tea and a chat), there is a presentation and/or discussion led by one (or more) of the members on some technical or artistic element of the photographer’s art. Recent examples have included: Letters, Photographing Bees and other Insects, Use of Lens Filters in Photography, Workflow in Luminar Neo, Photographing Wildflowers, and Abstract Photography

The group welcomes keen photographers of all levels of experience, including beginners, who are prepared actively to contribute to the group meetings. The group enjoys enthusiastic input from a membership with a wide range of photography experience, but unified by an eagerness to participate, discuss, learn and to work on improving skills
