Hillwalking

Status:Active, full but can join waiting list
Group email: Hillwalking group
When: On Mondays
Every four weeks, week 2
Venue: As arranged

We cater for those who enjoy the challenge of the outdoors with the views and forays into hinterlands less frequented. We choose routes depending very much on the wishes and interests of group members, and planning is flexible to encompass the vagaries of the Scottish weather.

Details of some of the more recent walks can be accessed using the links on this page. They cover a wide geographic area but are within a maximum of 2 hrs drive from Perth and usually less. We normally expect to cover at least 8 miles depending on the terrain, to climb around 3,000 ft and to be out for the full day. In 2025 we climbed a range of hills including Meall Clachach at Killin, Mayar and Driesh in the Angus Glens, a series of Munro's around Drumochter and An Caisteal and Beinn a Chroin close to Crianlarich. In May we had our annual long weekend at Corran where a range of walks were undertaken including the 'Ring of Steall' , a circuit of four Munros. In 2026 our extended stay will be back at Torridon, a favourite centre with wide range of walks to keep us all happy. In previous years we have also stayed at Ullapool, Skye and Ratagan.

Members each agree to co-ordinate walks, checking availability of others and weather forecasts. The final decision on routes is generally made about 24 hours beforehand. We limit our membership to 20 walkers which we agreed is a sensible limit to membership, though the normal turnout on any walk would be in the range of 10-15.

Like all the walking groups, we continue to walk throughout the year, moving on to a 3-week schedule over the summer.
